5 Hot WordPress Weblogs!

July 15, 2008

I feel, my dear friends, like I’ve been neglecting you. What with getting up for work every morning at 630am (Ordinarily, anything before 9 is blasphemy), I’ve been a bit unwilling to do anything productive. I usually work all day, get home around 4pm, discuss work with my boyfriend for a while, and then nap until Jeopardy.

Yeah, you read that right. I NAP until JEOPARDY. Pretty much every day. I will point out that while I am usually the nap-instigator, the Jeopardy obsession rests firmly in the hands of my trivia-loving other half.

In any case, this blog needs some love (despite the recent spike in page views due to Dateline’s discussion of Missing Money.com), which means that it needs some new content. As I was thinking about what to write, I realized that there are probably a lot of other blogs out there that need some love, as well. So, I went over to the WordPress Growing Blogs page (a page that I am pleased to announce that this blog graces), and picked a few interesting-sounding titles and taglines. I would mention, at this point, that having an interesting tagline is make-or-break when I (and presumably others) see your blog listed anywhere. Take some time and work on it.

And now, with no further ado and hopefully with a minimum of parenthesis, as I have discovered that I frequently overuse them, here are some of the new exciting blogs on WordPress. Enjoy!

1. Vermont’s Burning

This blog didn’t catch my eye at first, as the top post at the moment is just not going to do it for anyone who doesn’t already read the blog. However, the second post, concerning my beloved Google Trends, caught my eye. I wish I had been paying attention on the 10th and had caught this. After the post about GoogleTrends, I was presented with Senseless Hotness, and I was hooked. This blog seems to be a lot like mine, in that it doesn’t have a formal theme or idea behind it, but provides great content across the board, as well as insights into the personal life of the blogger, whom I find that I do, in fact, want to know more about. Read this blog, if for nothing else, to learn the context for the following sentence:

“I’d hate to see the late fees on a rake.”

2. Sleeping In Airports

Finding this blog was a bit of a surprise to me, as I had previously (via stumbleupon) found the website Sleeping In Airports. The blog appears to be run by the same guy who runs the website, and the blog provides some of the hilarity that won’t fit onto the website. The first picture that I encountered on the blog is of a guy “pitching a tent.” I giggled pretty furiously, and my interest didn’t wane as I worked my way down through the posts. Of course, I’m a huge fan of the website, and that might have swayed my interest just a bit. In any case, whether you sleep in airports or not, visit this blog and enjoy.

3. Extreme Adventures in Motherhood

I will admit, before I go any further, that I am a sucker for this kind of website. I hope someday to be a mother, and the fact that “someday” is probably 8 or 10 years down the road doesn’t make me any less interested in the experiences of mothers. If you’re looking for a blog about day-to-day life, this is a great place to start. I was quickly reduced to giggles by the Flaming Microwave Incident, and my appreciation for the blog and the writing style only increased as I read on. This is one of the few blogs that I have read lately (mine included) that I didn’t feel the need to apply a liberal dose of spellcheck to. Whether you’re a mother or not, this blog will be a real treat.

4. My Dad Napping

This one is pretty self-explanatory. The blog is devoted to pictures of the blogger’s father (and hopefully, eventually, other people’s fathers) napping. This sort of thing is becoming a trend on the internet, it seems. I’ve seen similar blogs for Stuff on My Cat, Cats In Sinks, etc, etc, etc. Now is your chance to get in at the ground floor on a new internet meme. Also, it’s a good way to thoroughly embarrass your father. Go on, friends. Go take a look at My Dad Napping.

5. Happyjoel’s Super Fun Time Weblog

I’m still in a bit of shock about this next blog. It appears, according to one of the pages on the blog, that HappyJoel is one of those people who enters contests like a madman and attempts to survive in some form on (or at least thoroughly enjoy) his winnings. It also appears that HappyJoel actually WINS things. Of course, it’s not like he’s just entering sweepstakes by filling out short forms or sending in a picture of his favorite pig. HappyJoel actually DOES things to win contests, including making a number of entertaining videos. I’m really impressed by this blog, and I kind of wish that HappyJoelwould share some of his secrets with me. Perhaps that could be a future blog project, although he would, of course, be sharing tips that don’t relate to his current contests, as he wouldn’t want to help the competition. Also, HappyJoel is currently running a contest of his own, and I’m thinking of entering. You should too. Check it out here, and then check out the rest of his blog.

As always, if you’re interested in having your blog featured here on Thursday Pass, please feel free to post a link in the comments. I’m particularly interested in literature, photography, humor, and really, just about anything that is written well and applies to a wide audience. Send away, and see your blog featured here!

Hey there, thanks for the love! And yes, my blog has no format – it’s basically my journals/personal rantings put to the interwebs, much of it is just too inside. Oh well. Thanks for not trashing me 🙂

Good lookin’ out, glad you like it.

And yes, I do make my living exclusively with contest winnings for the moment. No idea how long I can keep it up, but who am I to argue with how awesome/hysterical being alive and american is at this point in history?
